California Pottery

California has a rich craftsman pottery tradition. Gladding McBean and Malibu tile was used to decorate many public buildings in and around Los Angeles. The city of Avalon on Catalina derives much of its charm and beauty from it's famous tile and pottery and much of the beautiful craftsman architecture in Pasadena is adorned with ceramics made by Ernest Batchelder. The Northridge Earthquake in 1994 destroyed most of Lynn's collection of California pottery. As she found replacements she began painting a portrait of each new pot. They are unique individuals with their own personality characteristics.
